AIPE's support in the Hydrogen sector

AIPE is committed to supporting its members in the development and implementation of standards for the hydrogen value chain, thus contributing to the decarbonisation and energy transition of Europe. We actively collaborate with standardisation bodies and technical groups to address the challenges related to the production, storage, distribution and use of hydrogen.

In particular, AIPE:

  • Supports standardization: participates in the work of CEN/TC 54 and CEN/TC 267, which develop specific standards for pressure vessels and piping dedicated to hydrogen, such as prEN 13445-15 and prEN 13480-11.
  • Promotes safety: contributes to the definition of criteria for the compatibility of materials, to avoid negative effects such as embrittlement and hydrogen attack, ensuring the safety and efficiency of infrastructures.
  • It promotes Italian participation: it coordinates the involvement of its members in technical subgroups, valorising national know-how in the choice of materials, in design and in structural calculations.
  • Spreads awareness: informs its members about the progress of standardisation and the opportunities arising from the harmonisation of standards in the European context.

Through these activities, AIPE contributes to the acceleration of the hydrogen economy, providing its members with the technical knowledge and experience needed to compete internationally. We are committed to working with European actors to foster a sustainable, safe and innovative development of hydrogen energy.
